SAVE THE HOV LANES

There is one thing that really works in Northern Virginia Transportation and that is the unitlization of the HOV lanes on I-95/395.

The lanes work so well because of slugging- a free system which organically meets the needs of drivers and the needs of riders and moves more people to D.C. everyday than the regular lanes.

Slugging is not a government solution. But a government solution may end it. Of course, I'm talking about I-95/395 High Occupancy Toll Lanes project, commonly known as the HOT Lanes.

Governor Tim Kaine is moving forward with the most controversial transportation project in the history of our area with reckless speed.

The public has numerous serious questions that need answering. Will the lanes be safe with 4 foot shoulders? Will the citizens be required to make bailout payments to Transurban if the lanes fail? How will slugging survive? How many cars will be added? Will there be additional choke points due to the new access ramps? And what on earth will you do about the 14th street bridge?

On October 20th, a bipartisan majority of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors passed a resolution calling on Governor Kaine, VDOT, and Transurban to come before the public and answer these questions.

On November 26th we received a response from Secretary of Transportation Pierce Homer. They claim the public is sufficiently involved in the process and they claim they are meeting with leaders in the "slugging community."

Secretary Homer is offering us the chance to review documents relating to the HOT lane project. Unfortunately his office has not returned our calls. VDOT is going to try and bury us in paper- we need your help.

Join our HOT Lane Document Review Team. If VDOT still refuses to bring the issues to the public, we'll bring the public to them. Sign this petition and demand Governor Kaine answer the public's questions and concerns!
